It happens – sometimes you need to have a day indoors. So here is a selection of things to do when it is wet, cold or you just want to stay indoors:

There is a pool and leisure centre in Blairgowrie, attached to the High School. During term time the school has main use of the pool and facilities, but evenings, weekends and holiday times there are public swimming sessions and other activities in the leisure centre. Either call on 01250 871360 or look on their website for details of opening times and activities.

There is also the Olympia pool in Dundee which has a rapid river, seated bubble bed, wave pool and flumes. It also has a 50m training pool and diving pool.

Ice skating

There are rinks in Perth and Dundee. Perth has more of an emphasis on curling, but does also offer public skating sessions, whilst Dundee offers more in the way of learn to skate sessions, public skating, discos and is also home to the Dundee CCS ice hockey team, so plays host to their lively home matches.

There are a number of cinemas in the area, most notably our own community run cinema – Strathmore Screen which holds screenings one Sunday a month in the Town Hall Blairgowrie, provided by Film Mobile Scotland this is a wonderful way to experience the cinema in a different way as you join the local community to get together and watch the latest releases, enjoy a blether and have a cup of tea and a bit of home baking.

For those not fortunate enough to be here for the community cinema experience there are cinemas at:

Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre which shows art house and foreign language films alongside main stream releases. It also has a great cafe/ restaurant and bar.

Cineworld Dundee

Indoor climbing

Avertical world in Dundee provides indoor climbing opportunities with walls for all abilities and a range of techniques. The Tiso store in Perth also has a climbing wall.

Soft play, karting & bowling

There are a number of places in the area offering soft-play for younger children including Pirates Island, Dundee and Frostys in Forfar.

Noah’s Ark in Perth offers a wide range of activities including indoor karting, ten-pin bowling and soft play.

Staying in

If all of the above sounds like too much effort, there is always staying in by the fire, playing games from the games cupboard, reading a book, watching a DVD or gazing out of the window at the rivers going by!
