Seasonal activities
Whatever the time of year there are good reasons to come and stay at Brooklinn Mill either to explore the Blairgowrie area or to use it as a base from which to explore further afield.
Spring
There is great excitement and anticipation in March as the ospreys return to Loch of the Lowes near Dunkeld. The Scottish Wildlife Trust centre has a wealth of information on the birds and of course an opportunity to watch these magnificent creatures in their summer home.
During May the local bluebell woods really come to the fore. The dusky blue carpet of flowers with their subtle perfume is something which is not easily forgotten.
Summer
As the days lengthen into June and the longest day, it's the perfect opportunity to get out and about and really enjoy the Scottish countryside. The long, light evenings make it possible to either start a walk in the afternoon or indeed to make a long day of it and tackle something more challenging such as Beinn a' Ghlo with its four Munros in one walk.
If that all sounds too much like hard work, what could be better than sitting beside the river in your own back-yard at Brooklinn Mill enjoying the sound of the river and the swallows and swifts putting on their displays of aerial acrobatics?
Soft fruits
Blairgowrie is known as "the berry capital" and from June to September local farms are busy harvesting raspberries, strawberries, and currants which are sold throughout the UK. Rather than buying them in your supermarket why not come and see where they are grown and take the chance to buy some with minimal food miles? They really do taste better!
Highland games
Throughout the summer towns and villages throughout Scotland hold their annual highland games. So if you want to see tossing the caber, hill-running or highland dancing for real this is the perfect opportunity. Blairgowrie's highland games takes place on the first Sunday in September (September the 6th in 2009). It is always preceded by Braemar night on the Saturday with its fair and fireworks display to celebrate the Braemar highland games which take place during the day.
