Walking

There are plenty of lovely local walks right from the door at the Jute Store, from a gentle walk into Blairgowrie along the riverside to exploring the network of marked walks around the town and surrounding area. We have a number of maps and guides for local walks at the Jute Store which guests can borrow.

Other local walks include exploring Glen Isla with its dramatic waterfall at Reekie Linn. The other Angus Glens made up of Glen Clova, Glen Doll and Glen Esk are a short journey away and are a fabulous location for walks of all grades from a gente ramble to a challenging hike. The Walk Highlands site has some great information on walks in the area, including downloadable guides and is well worth taking a look at as you plan your walks.

The Cateran Trail is a 65 mile circular route which starts and ends in Blairgowrie, and passes through some of Eastern Scotland’s loveliest landscapes. Based on ancient drovers paths it is a great blend of riverside and woodland, open moorland and glimpses of the Highlands. You don’t have to walk it all on one go of course: it can be split into 5 or 6 walks ranging from 4 to 7 hours in length. Details of the Cateran Trail walks can be found on the Walk Highlands site.

The Blair Atholl estate also offers a wonderful range of walks through woodland and moorland, as does the area around Pitlochry including Loch Faskally and the falls at Bruar.
