The Jute Store

The Jute Store, as its name suggests, used to be the store where raw jute from India was kept before it was processed in the main mill building. It was built during the 1840's so has a traditional wooden frame and thick stone walls. Owing to its design as store building it has ceilings that are much higher than a conventional house, giving it a wonderfully spacious feel and with many of the original features retained, it has loads of character.
The Jute Store sleeps 6 people very comfortably in accommodation that is arranged over two floors.
Ground floor
The large living room, has a wood-burning stove which makes it very cosy on chilly evenings with plentiful seating for everyone. There is an exposed stone wall which is a real feature in the room and the dining area boasts a stunning view of the mill dam waterfall and woodland beyond. Oh, and should you be bored of looking out the window - there is a TV and DVD player as well.
The kitchen is spacious, and very well equipped. There is an electric cooker, microwave oven, fridge-freezer and dishwasher. And a radio/CD player too. There is also a table in the kitchen which makes a very cosy space around which to gather for coffee or an informal breakfast.
Utility room with washing machine and drying rack.
Shower-room with WC.
There is access to the basement area which provides ample storage for bikes, canoes, boots and any other outdoor gear as well as the unusual sight of the exposed rock face onto which The Jute Store is built.
Upper ground floor
The three bedrooms are all very well furnished and the beds are made up with crisp cotton sheets and cosy feather duvets. During the summer we make the beds up with lighter duvets or blankets.
Bedroom 1 has a king-sized bed, and the added attraction of a lovely east facing balcony with a great view down the river.
Bedroom 2 has a double bed.
Bedroom 3 has twin beds and a view of the River Ericht.
The large bathroom has two sinks, WC, bidet and a very unusual sunken bath-tub.
Book room - this little gem is too small for a bedroom and too special to be locked away. The tall window offers a lovely view of the river and is a nice quiet place in which to read or just relax.
The central heating and hot water are fully controllable and are provided from a heat pump system, which means its good for the environment too!
Electricity is 240v mains supply.
Water is mains supply.
The Jute Store is no-smoking accommodation
Outdoor space
There is a private outdoor seating area with barbecue with great views of the mill dam and River Ericht which makes it a wonderful place in which to while away a few hours, enjoy the sound of the water and just relax.
The loft above the Jute Store accommodation is a separate, and privately occupied, annex.
